Ulcerative Colitis and Alcoholic Beverages

In the past, I have often taken alcohol even during periods of bad symptoms, but does the type of alcohol make a difference in how bad the symptoms get?

Of course, my symptoms worsened without fail, so there is no doubt that it is best not to take alcohol. I have looked in books and websites and there are some that say to avoid alcohol, but none of them mention the type of alcohol.

My personal feeling is that distilled alcohol (e.g., shochu) is less damaging than brewed alcohol (e.g., sake) because it is naturally lower in alcohol content and does not contain carbonation.

This is why, during the period when my symptoms were bad and I could not avoid drinking, I would drink oolong tea. Oolong tea also has the effect of breaking down oil, so that may be one factor.

Well, I repeat, I never got better after drinking alcohol…
